Fire Rated Door Assemblies

A fire rated opening is a listed assembly, not a fire door. Every part has to carry a rating and the label has to survive the install. 1NSG Corp installs and repairs rated assemblies across South Florida.

The whole assembly is rated

Door, frame, hinges, closer, latching hardware, glazing, and the anchoring all have to be listed and compatible. A rated door hung in an unrated frame is not a rated opening, and an inspector will call it.

A fire rated opening is a listed assembly. Every component must be listed and compatible for the rating to hold.

What voids a label

Field cutting a door for a lite or a louver, removing a closer, drilling for hardware that was not part of the listing, or painting over the label. Once the label is gone the opening is not rated and cannot be made rated by argument.

Annual inspection and repair

Rated assemblies in most occupancies have to be inspected annually. We repair what fails, gaps out of tolerance, latches not catching, closers not closing and latching, and document it.

If an inspector wrote you up on rated openings, send us the report and we will scope the corrections.
